Judge a Book by it’s cover.
Created a compelling book cover design using pre-existing artwork, aligning seamlessly with the book’s introspective and personal themes. The cover features a hand-drawn brain illustration layered with the title, symbolizing intellectual and emotional growth. This design balances artistic integrity with marketability, ensuring the book’s visual identity stands out while staying true to the author’s vision.

The goal of my book design was to hide in plain sight the entire story.
I invite you to judge it at face value.
In 2023, I released my first book. It was self published, self marketed, self edited, the book cover was designed by me. Everything about the book is a physical embodiment of me. The content is deeply personal entries of poetry and art that addresses mental illness and identity.
I wanted the cover to give an abrasive and subtle introduction to the version of me that is encapsulated between the pages. I knew I wanted to use one of my existing artworks as the basis but I also wanted to provide a message that the content isn’t surface level and filler prose.
My painting Depression, a simple illustration of a brain with black acrylic paint, is the background for my book Abstract. An added black text overlay to the title give the feeling the word is lifting off of the cover, representing the personal growth throughout the book. The inclusion of a torn paper motif reveals the subtitle that goes below the surface to give you the whole energy of the subject matter and collection contained in the internationally sold book.
